Default Conroe/Woodlands-Alvin?

Hi
We are moving the Houston area and the big city thing will be new to me. We were thinking about living in Conroe/Woodlands area or Alvin/Sugarland area. We have two horses like to trail ride/hike/fish/boat etc. We also like to go and and have a few beers/dance etc.every now and then, so we don't want a place that is too quiet and conservative. My wife is a horse vet and I am a self employed engineer so we likely won't have to commute in to the city everyday, but I will need to get into the city a few times per week. Any ideas on where in the Houston area might be a good fit?
