Kemah is just...something. And I don't patronize Fertitta establishments. I would definitely seek out some locally-owned dining experiences (Ninfa's on Navigation, etc).

Unique? The Orange Show on Munger - (is the beer can house still around)? Armand Bayou Nature Center (Home : Armand Bayou Nature Center). Museum of Print History on West Clay. ABNC has some interesting pontoon boat tours evenings and early mornings.

Armand Bayou is unbearably hot this time of year! The cabins that the displays are in are "barely" air-conditioned. Even walking in the shade can be really really tough for anyone who is not use to this heat. If you go...bring mosquito spray or prepare to be eaten alive.

Yeah figured the Orange Show and the Beer Can House are "unique" to Houston. Yeah on Armand Bayou Nature Center, I was thinking more some of the dusk and dawn pontoon boat excursions rather than touring the cabins during the heat of the day.

Oh and Project Row Houses is also unique to Houston and very much worth a visit.

How bout a kolache? Those aren't found everywhere. Even had a friend from Dallas who didn't know what they were.
For breakfast go to a donut shop and ask for a kolache, or you can try the kolache factory.

I would also say Moody Gardens since you don't see 3 pyramids just lying around Philly . . . but that's in Galveston. However, my wife thought the Corckrell Butterfly Center in the Museum of Natural Science was pretty cool.

Also, the Medical Center is a Houston exclusive . . . but I don't think they give tours . . .

Oh, and you just gotta do Goode BBQ Co.

these are all great suggestions!! i appreciate all of your help. The terra cotta warriors sounds neat. Ive been to Kemah a few times and i am not a big fan, I think its great for kids but the restaurants are pretty bad and the water is gross! I didnt know about boat rides at the armand Bayou so ill check into that. The zoo is great but it is just so hot! Thanks again! Oh and I couldnt agree more about kolaches, i had never heard of them before here either and while i had heard of crawfish, eating them here in Houston is a real experience too

When I go to Kemah's I patronize the local restaurants near the boardwalk but not on it - Bakkus has great Greek Food, Amadeus has good food as well (located at the former Claudio's site).
