Why would it be like death?

my wife is from guatemala and if you where to retire there with a middle of the road retirement plan you would live a VERY good life. i just love cabo. guatemala is an amazing place that people dont realize. it gets skipped over left and right. it has beautiful beaches on both the pacific and atlantic coasts (we already have a beach house on the pacific) it has some of the greatest (and least known) sport fishing. cost of living is as low as it can be.
my inlaws are not rich, they are not in "obamas taxable rich" wealth range and they have 2 maids, 2 houses, 4 cars, and travel here every 2-4 months.
i would check out guatemala to visit. anyone is more then welcome to message me if they are interested and i can give more info, more details. maybe help out on what to do and all that.

Sell your place here and use the money to buy or put a downpayment on something there. I'm sure real estate in NC is way cheaper than it is here.

in the guatemalan job market it is litterally all about WHO YOU KNOW. people make decent money but what would be not bad here in houston is a lot there. remember their curency is around 8-1 with ours. land is not super cheap but my sisters in law all live in nice 2 story homes, about 3000 sq ft in a gated community (most are these days) which cost them roughly 150,000. there isnt really any financing of things, it is generally cash sales. for instance, you cant go to a car dealer and get some gmac finance, it is cash only. but you will still see plenty of mercedes, bmw's or what not driving down the road. there is no real "middle class" you either have money or you have nothing. there are some super rich people there though, my wifes best friend is maried to a man who owns a bunch of textile companies and several of the private fire depts. they also own an island, a $5,000,000 house in guate, a $2,000,000 house around miami beach, and 3 private planes. chances are if your shirt says "made in guatemala" it came from his plants.

Seattle Washington or I would probably go back home, NYC.
I am leaning to NYC because of family being there. Then once again I would probably want to be close to my kids and grandchildren If I were to have any.

I'm not sure and I have at least a decade or more to find a spot. Summers in the midwest would be nice. I'm not a native but I like TX, a place in the Hill Country seems desireable, or maybe Panama...
