I used to live in North Carolina, and I all i can say is WHAT A BORING STATE!!!!! It is very hard to make friends there. People seem to have their little circle of friends and do not want to let anybody in. The social life there consists of drinking beer and drinking beer. I much prefer the ease of making friends here in Houston. No matter how f'ed up you are here people seem to accept you. I have made more friends in 10 months in Houston than 3 years in NC. Also, I'll take 4 months of heat over 5 months of cold. At least in Houston you can do activities year round.

People are friendly in Texas but conservative. I will take cold anytime. In Houston, you can't do much in heat.

Maybe you can do activities year round, but I can't stand to be outside in this heat. But like I said before all places are not for all people and Houston is not for me. Five months of cold weather sounds wonderful to me.

I can understand that. I just got back from having a coffee outside in Montrose. I couldn't imagine doing that in say January in NC. Being able to be outside year round is just one of the things I love about The Big Dirty.

the problem with being a loner, Texas User, is that in the end (and interium) you are....well...alone...

there is more to guate then just guatemala city. and for the record, 75-80% of all kidnappings and roberies involve the security/body guards in some way shape or form.[QUOTE guatemala gets a bad wrap but i feel safer walking down a street in zona 10 then walking through a street in jarez mexico in the middle of the day. my mother in law is the ceo of a bank (well an american bank branch there) and the ONLY time she has ever been even aproached was 15 yrs ago and they wanted her BMW. ironicly enough, my wife and her cousin where at a night club and found the car. they "stole" it back as my wife always had the spare key.
the road "up the mountain" is the new "it spot" (this is the highway to el salvador) but there are so many nice little towns all along the coasts.

THAT goes without saying...juarez has been a crime infested pit for some time now! So to compare juarez to virtually anywhere besides the war torn areas of the middle east is really a subject of non-conversation, and certainly not anywhere in the Forbes top ten, twenty ,one hundred lists of places to retire...or survive..
The mere statement that 75-80% of all kidnappings & robberies are from security personel fails, sorry, to conjure up warm, fuzzy, binky cuddle feelers...
I for one, would choose for comparison, a bit more benign area.
