Default Warning - pets killed near Buffalo Bayou in Katy

My neighborhood borders a large ditch that drains into Buffalo Bayou (Cinco Ranch-Highland Park subdivision). A couple of weeks ago a neighbor found their cat between the ditch and nearby playground torn to shreds - the husband suspected a bobcat. Today, a neighbor's child found a cat that they think is theirs (kind of hard to tell apparently), also torn to shreds. If you live near the bayou or drainage ditches, please keep your pets and children safe.

Some things never change. Back in the day in Sugar Land, some people ripped the bladder out of a cat, apparently in a nighttime ritual. Then they shish-ka-bob'd the remains on an upside down cross... and stuck it in the ground in front of a church. Nice guys.

Personally, I would not let any of my pets hang out near those bayous or drainage ditches. Alot of people dont know this or forget this, but like Florida and Louisiana, Houston and East Texas in general, is a known Alligator habitat and several have been spotted along Buffalo Bayou in addition to Lake Houston.

400-Pound Alligator Found In Back Yard - Houston News Story - KPRC Houston

The link above mentioned a 400 pound alligator that showed up in a back yard in Missouri City.

I can guarantee an alligator would not leave any "shreds". The cat would have gone down whole.
Agreed EA...most likely a coyote.
But smart to keep your cats indoors...they will have a longer and healthier life.

Cats need to be inside just like dogs to be safe. So sad for that cat.

That's my neighborhood she's talking about, and that ditch runs through my backyard...luckily I have no cats, but my neighbors have two outdoor cats. As for coyotes vs bobcats, the bobcat has been photographed near here...nobody has seen any coyotes that I know of.
