These sites helped:

New Residents

Texas Department of Public Safety - Courtesy, Service, Protection (http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/driver_licensing_control/movingtotexas.htm - broken link)

I called the Harris County Tax Office the other day to confirm how much it would cost to have our vehicles titled in Texas. The lady told me to go to this site and fill in my odometer and VIN to see how much my car is valued for sales tax purposes (which is required to retitle a car in Texas). The actual sales tax is 6.25% of that calculated value. Then there are the remaining fees.

The lady at the tax office was very helpful, so I would definitely recommend contacting them for any further clarification.

You can find your county tax office here: County Tax Offices

Hope that helps!

Thanks...i have read those sites. I was wondering if anyone could tell me details like...where is a good place to get the inspection...good times to go...experiences they had, good or bad...insider tips...etc. That sort of thing.

Is there only one location for the County Tax office?
