I am a native So. Cali girl. I did live in the Seattle area for a few years during high school, but I moved back to Cali and soon as I could.
We have been in NW Houston for about 1 and 1/2 months now. My husband received a promotion at work, and Houston is where they put us. I love it here! I couldn't be happier. We were more than ready to leave California....it just isn't what it used to be. We were looking at North Carolina, or Houston, and this area is a much better territory for my husband so I am glad we landed here.
I think I need to live here an entire year to really know if I like it...ya know, live through all the seasons. We moved here in the hottest time of year and so far I love it. We do have a pool, and I sit inside the AC most of the day, but I don't mind the heat and humidity much at all. I sort of like it. I love coming out of the grocery store late at night and the warm air envelopes me like a hug from a loved one. It is still jacket cold at night in So. Cal. It was 66 there at 4:30 pm on July 4th. Yuck.
I love many things about my new home. I love the trees and birds and squirls that my 2 yr old and I watch each morning. I love my great big house I could never afford in Cal. I love how polite and friendly everyone I encounter is to me.....with the exception of driving. But I can handle that...I drove in downtown LA for years.
At this point...I do not miss anything about California, except maybe a few food items I can't find here and a fast food place or two. Life just seems more real here. We did keep our home in Cal., but we have no plans of returning anytime soon.

This totally reminds me of an episode of "Property Virgins" on HGTV the other day--some girl bought a condo in D.C. and had to BUY her parking space for an extra $40K. I mean--WTF? Like NYC...

It is a little bit different to live 1/4 mile away and ride your bicycle to the ocean then have to drive 30 minutes to Galveston. That is what I miss.

Maybe, but if I was from there I sure as heck wouldn't be making fun of another place as if Sacramento was something special.

My wife and I was born and raised in Los Angeles, (South LA, Inglewood and Carson area).. We're in our 30's and just moved out here back in 2006. Since then we had other friends and family (totaling 6 families) moved out of LA and moved into Katy. We all agree that Katy is a far better environment to live and raise our kids.
