Am I stupid to be moving to California?
I've been living in Houston for the past 6 years and have been wanting to return home to Cali , I just can't take the humidity and ungly beaches any longer.
I guess the reason for my final decision to return is that the real estate is priced equal to texas now, am I a fool?

I haven't looked into this in detail, but I seriously doubt it.

Uh... there is no humidity in California? Plus the water is cold there, and the unemployment rate is AWESOME!

Where in Ca is the Real estate cost equal to Houston? I guess that would also depend on which part of Houston you're comparing to.

LRobbins, the real estate in CA is no where near priced equal to Texas!!
we just sold, in fact are in escrow, selling our home in Ca for $490k...the home is 11 years old..
An almost identical floor plan, brand new, on the same size lot in Conroe Texas is $269k
Real Estate here is, of course, dramatically down (if only we sold in 2005...
folks bought our exact floor plan for $750k... ) oh well...I guess it could be worse...WE could have been the ones paying
$750k.. , so at least we stayed on the right side of the fence..
I just don't want you to set yourself up and come all the way out here, and be shocked, so I hope real estate is not your only driving force.
Good Luck !!!

Folks I think what the OP is trying to say is the gap between the cost of living in CA/TX. is closing due to the fact that CA wages are higher and Homes are getting cheaper. I hate to say but my Wife and I are also considering the same move.
If all things were the same I'd choose CA in a heartbeat, but I'm OK with TX.
