Question inside city limits

What areas inside Houston city limits would be good for a family of four? We have 2 children 11 and 3, so good schools are a huge factor. Other major factors are neighborhood safety, house price 200-250k,commuting to work. I've been feeling a little discouraged about the commuting.

Not sure why you are looking for something specifically within the city limits but you might look in areas between Westheimer and north to I-10. This would include several subdivisions in the Houston ISD which don't honestly have a great reputation. The school districts further out in Ft. Bend, Katy, Cy-Fair and Klein are all better (avoid Alief) and you will get more house for the money. If you are determined to stay in HISD within the city limits, you should concentrate on the west side of the city as the schools are far better. A nice subdivision on the west side is Briargrove Park and the houses toward the back (more northerly) are bigger - north of Briar Forest. Some of the really nice areas like Tanglewood & Memorial may well be out of your price range but it wouldn't hurt to look. Good luck.

I don't know where you work, but if you can live south, usually 288 is tolerable since the area is not as settled as other parts of the Houston area. Pearland is nice.
