Exactly! I've travelled many places with the oil industry and find Houston a very underrated place to live. Many stereotype it because of hurricanes, humidity, and redneck or cowboy profiling. I won't deny you will find that here, but there is also plenty of diversity in food, entertainment, and people. The affordability is a two way street, you can get a lot of space here, and there is no state income tax, but government usually gets their dues and here its with 3% property tax. There are many more 'big' cities that are worse to live in IMHO. You don't see a lot of folks longing to move to Memphis, Jacksonville and such.

I have a story about a certain Houston Texan but I don't want him to come down with a drug suspension from the league.

That makes sense. ATL and Miami are also big with the athletes.

Yeah, I remember a comparison oe of the radio stations did regarding Les Alexander's home in NY vs what T-Mac has in Sugarland(ish)...

Something like this:

T-Mac: 240,000 ft2 for $3 mil

Les: 80,000 ft2 for $24 mil

If those aren't the exact numbers, it was pretty darn bassackwards nonetheless.

Apparently T-Mac bought the Astrodome and converted it into his new home. Now we can finally put those movie studio and indoor ski facility rumors to bed.

more then just athletes live here.

my wife built a house in royal oaks that had a contract on it by ron artest, when he signed with LA his people dropped the contract, and gave up several hundred K in earnest money. they have a house going up right across the street from nick van exel, and there are several "models" who live there. that house is also about 5 down from dominique sachse.
the artest house is CRAZY. 3.4 mil, 9500 sq ft, 25 person stadium seated media room, outdoor kitchen with viking refre, full convection stove/oven, grill, the works. a 200 sq ft full refrigerated wine room. some kinda rediculous vault/safe thing. something like 8 refrigerators all around, 5 jecusi tubs. 10' ceileings it was pretty much EVERYTHING nobody needs but most would like to have

Welll your comparing NY to SugarLand... its not exactly the same thing.

I have seen Tracy McGrady's house... it stretches from one end of a Cul-de-Sac to the other end. It is located in a gated community within SweetWater. He also co-owns a private jet that is stationed at SUGARLAND AIRPORT. And I've seen him driving around... I was making a left turn at a stop sign and he was just there with his window down... I really couldnt believe it.

But if anyone wants an example of how to rob an organization without doing much work... T-Wack is the greatest example ever. He literally gets paid insane amounts of money and its a rarity to see him play. lol

Besides, lack of income tax, better cost of living, and diversity, Houston is centrally located in the US with 2 large airports so it's very easy to get a flight to either coast, or out of the country.

Andy Serkis, who did the voice of Gollum in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy lives in Kings River Estates in Kingwood.

The OP said many NBA players have homes here. I read that San Antonio had more NBA players then any other city.

Whatever the case there must be a reason they have homes in Texas.

Being around the music biz for so many years I got to meet and see so many rock stars and their homes. Sometimes it would surprise us regular people where they choose to live. I got more stories and dirt on some of them then the rag magazines at the grocery checkout do. I know who's nice and who is not but I will never tell.

I'm pretty sure with that kind of money I would stay in this area. Only must is it must be a water front home.
