Okay so I was just reading a thread abt somebody having issues with an apartment. Then I was reading how much some people pay for a 4100 sq ft house. We just purchased a 3760 something sq ft house. I have upstairs set on 74 as well as downstairs. We are a green home and have Tech shield everywhere. How much do you think our bill will be??? We have 10.7 I think for the next 6 mths. Just curious how much everybody else pays for a house around the same size. We have never had a home this big. I think I will crank it up to 75 downstairs and 76 upstairs.

I got a home with all the energy star features (built last year) that is 4300 sqft with 3 a/c units. One unit is for upstairs, one is for downstairs, and the third is for the room above the garage. I set the upstairs unit at 80 during the day (since no one is up there during the day) and 76 at night (one kid sleeps up there). Downstairs is set at 80 during the day (if no one is home) and 77 at night. The garage apt is always set at 81 unless someone is up there and wants to turn it down (use it as a workout room).

The downstairs is always cooler because heat rises and the cool air sinks and the fact that it is all tile and wood. Keeping ceiling fans on in the rooms also makes the house feel cooler using less AC.

Electric bill for June which was our highest so far was $350. I think I was locked in at a rate of about 13.5 cents/kwh.

This question gets asked so often on here, and is so hard to answer because of all the factors.

However, I can tell you the TechShield in the roofing really helps. I think having a detached garage rather than attached helps some too. In our situation, going from a home with a swing (attached) garage and double-pane windows to another very similarly sized home with a detached garage, the same double-pane windows, and TechShield in the roofing, we're running about 40% less usage than the same time last year in the other home.

AK123,

Did you have the TechShield installed or was it there when you moved in? If you had it installed, how much did it run you?

It was here when we moved in.
But if I were to ever replace a roof on a home, I would definitely pay extra to have it put in. I don't think it's that much more.

4000 sq ft, 2 AC's and a pool. House is 30 years old. Power at about 10 cents per kw. My last bill was $350. Both AC's set at either both 78 or 78 below/80 above (only kids upstairs and they don't like it cold).
