I´m starting my postdoctoral fellowship in a couple of months. It´a research project and I know I´ll have to spend many hours in the lab, even in the weekend. I would appreciate if you could tell me some safe and lovely place to live where i coud walk to the MD. Half an hour walking...I can´t afford more!!

The bad news is that there isn't really a good place that is walking distance. Being in the heart of the med center, there isn't much residential around and what there is is pretty high crime. My best suggestion would be live somewhere west directly off the rail line. Like the Greenbriar off of braeswood drive.

There are plenty of apartments around the area, if that will work (if you're single w/no kids). Some are on the rail line (The Greenbriar comes to mind) and some are within a 30 min walk. Do a search on apartments.com for the zips 77030 and 77054. I would also go down to the Rice/W. University area, close to Main, and drive around in that little neighborhood there by the stadium and look for For Rent signs. Lots of houses broken up into quad apartments and small complexes that are definitely within walking distance.

Good luck with your postdoc--we're just getting out of ours (hubby is 5th year at MDACC). I am SO glad it is all over. ACK!!!

Default thannks for the answers

I´m from italy and i´m trying to avoid getting an american driving license, but i suppose i´ll have to. And buy a car!! (my grant is not a huge one).

Anyway, thankyou very much. I´ve been told Houstonians are kind people and that is what is reflected in this forum.

PD. Mom2feeb: was the fellowship such a nightmare? I´ll be in the hematologic malignancies department.
