If you're concerned about debris on the bottom, wait until low tide to go in. That will expose most of it.

And, don't forget, Galveston just underwent a massive flooding event about 11 months ago. Something like 95% of the city went under at least 4 ft of seawater, most of it deeper than that, and it washed out a lot of stuff which ended up back in the ocean and bays. All of the tourist piers along the seawall were destroyed and just about everything else except for the Flagship Hotel. I don't know if any effort has been made to remove that debris from the water, or even if it can be done. You'll have to ask a local about that.

As for the Jellyfish? They come around every so often. So do small sharks. It's just the ocean being the ocean.

Geesh! I go to my time-share in Jamaica Beach every May and the water's perfect (OK I'm an Ohioan). After worked in Norway, I can assure them they've probably never felt water so warm even in August in the North Sea or Baltic!

Default temperatures

Average high in Trondheim, Norway where I'm from in May is 56F, and 65F average July.
And I found that average May temperatures in Galveston is approximately 83F and almost 90F in July.

So i reckon we wont be cold

I lived in Galveston but recently moved. The beach is fine. All debris was removed months ago and everything is pretty much back to normal. I was on the Seawall during the weekend and it was packed! People were having a hard time finding a parking spot and alot of people were walking on the Seawall and having a great time on the beach. The last time I was in the water was June 3rd and during that time I did'nt get any cuts but, there was a jellyfish that washed ashore although nobody was stung by it.

That's good news! Thanks. I haven't been down there since a couple of weeks after Ike. At that time, the whole city was a giant pile of junk and some of the streets were barely navigable. I wonder what they did with it all?

Hundreds of dump trucks worked 24/7 and picked everything up & piled it behind the far west end of the sea wall. I saw them burning some of it. It was STINKY! They also had to drag the canals on the bayside the was junk sticking out of the water several feet high in places. They didn't get it all, you can still see some things down there when the tide is out....don't let your kids swim in the canals for a long time.
