Default Cable and Internet providers

I am new to Houston and was wondering if anyone can advise me on the different cable and internet providers. I live in the 77006 zip code. I tried calling Comcast right now because they had a pretty good deal of basic cable and internet for $69.99. But the installation fee came up and the modem lease fee, etc....it's ridiculous! And they did not offer to waive the fee. Have any of you ever had a provider waive these fees?

Comcast will nickel and dime you for everything. I am surprised they aren't charging me a lease fee for the coax cables they brought out.

/end rant. If you have a land line for your house, you may consider att dsl. They offer 6 mbs for 35 a month if you have a land line. As far as tv, I hear dish or direct tv is good, especially if you have an HDTV.

Also, try ATT U-Verse if it's available in your area. I made this switch and it's slightly cheaper and you get a lot more channels and interactive features and free movies-on-demand. They got it working in just 2 short visits, not the 6 or 7 if took Comcast and it STILL never worked reliably or stayed up with all channels for more than a month or so at a time.

The only down-side is that you are limited to 2 high-def TVs on at a time, or 4 regular TV's. (a high-def on a low-def channel counts as a regular ). We have 5 adults or near adult teenagers in our house so it's a bit of a drawback although it teaches bargaining and negotiation skills tto the kids. :-)

Did you have to get a receiver for each extra t.v.? If so, are you paying a fee for each receiver? I ask because I have three TVs and they stated I would have to pay a fee for the extra 2 receivers.

Comcast all the way. Best service ever for a low price.

If your referring to dish the first receiver is good for 2 tvs and then if you need a 2nd receiver I think they charge like $5 or $6 extra per month for it. That will cover up to 4 tvs. If you have more than 4 tvs in your house, well I suggest you get out more.

hmmm...low price. If you think that paying $100 for cable with HD (one box) is low.

That's the only reason I dropped comcast and went with directv. But whatever.

Not if you've been a customer with them for years - I know what I was paying before I cancelled their service. I called to see if I could get a break, but they said no. I said no to them. But everone has a choice to pay what they want .

To original poster. If you can get U-verse, that seems to be most reasonable way to get everything you need, but it was not available in my area so I went with Direct TV and ATT for phone / DSL.
