We are looking to get away for our anniversary and would like to rent a cabin or a condo in November. I was wondering if anyone here has any places that they could recommend? We don't really want to have to drive any more than 2 hours if possible, and be 15-20 mins away from civilization so we can do some shopping (malls, target, grocery stores, etc) We moved here 3 years ago and don't really know where would be good places to explore.

If 2 1/2 hours is ok, the Hill Country (Wimberley and Fredericksburg from the previous two suggestions) or Port Aransas would be perfect. Those areas are littered with B&Bs and rentable condos. Otherwise, if those drives are too long, there are bound to be some places out on Lake Livingston or in Galveston.

Two hours would be hard to do. It takes almost that long to get out of Houston!

Horseshoe Bay Resort in Marble Falls at 3 hours 45 minutes if you don't hit Austin at Rush Hour.

Lost Pines Resort in Bastrop at 2 hours I think would be fun and about a 30 minutes drive into Austin from there.

Wimberly is good, but "eh" on the shopping IMHO.

Fredricksburg is good, but I think that's more like 4 1/2 hours from Houston, depending on your location.

Lake O' Pines up towards the northeast. But it's a haul.

I understand Del Lago is back up and running in Conroe. That might be an idea. La Torretta Del Lago Resort & Spa | Lake Conroe, Texas

Port Aransas is good, but it's much farther than 2 hours.

Great suggestions! I'm coming from Katy... Our previous anniversary get-away's consisted of staying in either a timeshare or staying in a nice hotel. We're looking for a change this year..

Maybe you're the outdoors types - But the 4 hour trip to San Antonio was worth it for us. It's unique.

It's your anniversary, live it up!

Also on Conroe, actually not too far from Del Lago, is April Sound, also right on the lake with Golf, water sports, onsite restaurant/country club, gym etc. Nice big units that feel like two-bedroom apartments in the City.

The Lighthouse Inn, Rockport, TX, right on the waterfront of Aransas Bay.

Rockport Texas Hotel - the Lighthouse Inn at Aransas Bay (http://www.lighthousetexas.com/index.shtml - broken link)
