Moving for job in Conroe and need advise!
I am moving to the Conroe area for a new job. I will making around 37-40K and am looking for suggestions on areas to live. I am 31 newly single male and would like to live around an area that will have like minded/lifestyle people. Affordable with low crime. Not a big spender but likes a place with a nightlife. Looking for housing around 600-700 per mo. I am moving from the SW FL area. Please give me any input you may have. Thanks!

Hey there! Welcome to TX. I'm not too familiar with Conroe but live the Spring area which is about 20 min away. Check out anything in the Woodlands. Not too sure about apartments in that area but the whole area is very low in crime about 15 min away from Conroe and there are some great places for nightlife. Good luck!

Apartments will be cheaper in Conroe and I dont really know of ones there. I do know there is a pretty new apartment complex on Rayford Road (Rayford/Sawdust exit) called The Landmark. My son who is 33 just moved from there, and it was very nice and what you want to pay in rent. Not sure just where you will be working in Conroe, but Im sure there might be closer ones. As far as night life...you can find a few low keyed places around, or places to hang out, have a drink and watch sports, but the closest places for anything else might be 1960 area (about 30 mins up I45), but more than likely, you would have to go into Houston. I doubt for that price a month, you would be able to rent a house unless you had a roommate to share the expense, but it might be something to look into. Dot

I don't think you will find anything in the area with a nightlife for singles. Most people out in the suburbs are families and the entertainment is geared towards them. There are areas along 1960 with some entertainment but there is a lot of crime in that area. I'm thinking if you live anywhere north of 1960, then you will be traveling to Houston a lot for your entertainment. Nothing wrong with that. Houston is not too far of a drive.

If you want to be close to work, everything you could need, and some nightlife but still want affordable housing, check out the Spring/south Woodlands area. Conroe is nice and you could find a nice apartment at that price but not much nightlife goin on there. Spring to Conroe would be about 20 mins at the worst (unless 45 is STILL under construction there which wouldn't suprise me, we left last summer and it still was so it's a possibility). There is some nightlife around Spring/Woodlands, or it's not a bad drive to Houston. good luck to you!

The Woodlands may be the best option.

you are going to have to drive for nightlife in any of those places. Conroe is the safest and cheapest. You may find some cheaper apartments in Spring but don't count on feeling too safe. The best thing to do is probably get hooked up with a realtor in the Conroe area to help you find housing. If you are looking for a "house" you can go to har.com and do a search in conroe for houses.....there is a rental section.

The construction and traffic between The Woodlands and Conroe is INSANE. Find a place in Conroe.

Go with Conroe if you're going to work there. It's cheaper and you won't have to deal with the massive traffic jam that forms everyday during both rush hours. There's plenty of recently built apartment complexes. I think the newest ones sit at the intersection of Longmire/Loop 336.
As for nightlife, you probably have just as many options in Conroe as you do in the Woodlands, basically the same # of bars. You'll have to drive to Houston regardless for more options. Most of Conroe's are on or close to the lake.

Thanks for all the posts. I just returned from a quick trip out there and will be moving mid to late September. The office is just off 242 and I45. All of the close surrounding areas were nice but I'm still worried about
1. finding an apartment close to there for >$700 and
2. being single finding activities to meet people my own age/lifestyle out there.
Biggest problem is that I am moving to the area and don't know anyone there.
