houston community college requirements (Dallas, Alvin: 2011, apartment, rent)

hi im from minnesota and im going to be a junior and am interested in an out of state community college after i graduate 2011
what do you need to get into houston community college? is a high school diploma good enough? my gpa isnt the greatest its at like 2.3

I haven't even told you why I wanted to leave home. I'm also only going to be a Junior, so I will have plenty of time to raise my GPA. I already raised it a lot my Sophomore year, and it will keep improving. If you're just going to post stupid, rude, worthless comments, why even bother posting at all?

Here is the link to HCC 's requirements:
HCC Houston Community College - Admission Requirements

According to their website they have an Open-Door policy for admittance to their school. As long as you have earned a High School Diploma or GED you can enroll.

There are a number of community/junior colleges in and around the Houston Area. Some of the other schools are San Jacinto Junior College, North Harris County College, Wharton Junior College, Alvin Community College, etc....

Most junior colleges require only a pulse and a check to be admitted. With a 2.3 high school GPA you will really need to do well if you want to get into a real 4 year school. UT for example normally requires a minimum 3.6 GPA in junior college for admittance but you would probably need a 4.0 with high school grades like that.

From time to time I'm an adjunct instructor at the college level and get to talk with a lot of students. You haven't mentioned why you are interested in moving such a great distance at the age of 18 or 19 to attend a junior college. Why Houston or Dallas? Is it the warmer climate, the perceived sophistication of big-city life, the need to separate yourself from family and friends? Have you discussed your post-high school plans with your guidance counselor?

FYI: Junior or community colleges in big cities like Houston generally do not have student activities, organizations and campus lifestyle like those in smaller towns. Student housing is pretty much nonexistent; many students are older, perhaps married; some younger ones live with their families. Most junior college students here have full-time or part-time jobs. You may have both day and night classes at different campus locations so a car is essential. Big-city living is not cheap when you figure in the rent for a relatively safe apartment, food, car expenses and incidentals.
