I was looking for a Mom and Pop country/soul food restaurant on the Southwest side of Houston.

Something similar to Mel's or Goodsons in Tomball. I have absolutely fallen in love with those places. I livei in SugarLand I'm not going to drive all the way over there(I dont have the patience). So could someone please point me to a place similar closer. There is Buffolo Grill. I used to eat there alot when I worked over by West U.(20 mins. is still a bit much for me)So now I'm left craving for southern cooking!
I would assume such a place would exist since Mel's and Goodsons are way out in the sticks of North Houston. Anything way out in the sticks in South HOuston??

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not really sure on the southwest side of town. Texas Cafeteria on Shepherd just inside 610. Kelly's Country Cooking on Park Place, Dot Diner at Gulfgate, The Dinner Bell cafeteria at Lawndale & Wayside. The Bar-b-que Inn on Crosstimbers, (it is a whole lot more than bar-b-que). You might try Mama's Cafe on Westhiemer, Cleburne's cafeteria or the 59 Diner. Obviously some of these are better than others.

Have you tried Avalon Diner in Stafford or Mama's Cafe on Westheimer? They are both more of a diner, but have some good southern food.

Tried Avalon Diner once and did not have a good experience, I haven't decided if it gets a 2nd chance. Food was a C and that day Service got a D.
