Good god, did you know this beforehand? I thought my WCID at 1350/yr was expensive.

Sorry, incorrect Whether a home has an exemption or not is determined by the homeowner living at the property as of January 1st. If there is a homestead, over 65, etc, it will carry forward for the full year. If a home buyer purchases dec 31, they will continue with whatever exemption was with the house. In January, the new homeowner will apply for whatever exemptions they are permitted to have.

When someone purchases a home, the tax prorations done at the title company for closing will be based off the most recent certified values and rates. Any exemptions in place will be factored into the prorations at closing.
