Humidity sucks too.
That's the truth. I have never been impressed with the Gulf of Mexico and don't ever go.

I'm very surprised that the CA beaches have gone downhill because many years ago, and I do mean many, they were so gorgeous and nothing like described by the OP. This is very sad.

Galveston isn't dirty... that's a misconception from a decade or two back. It's been cleaned up, the water is blue, and the beaches are pretty clean. Ask people who have been recently.

The problem is, real estate is expensive (by TX standards anyway), insurance is expensive because of the hurricane risk, utilities are expensive, and it's just more of a tourist area than an area to live. There's not a large employment base, so many people living there would have to drive inland for their jobs.

I guess our definitions of dirty are different, hehe. Honestly though, it looks very rundown lately. Lots of homeless along the seawall too.

It may be fun to shop in Galveston on the strand, but I NEVER want to live there.

I agree that Galveston is an ideal living situation. The island is great and to me it provides a small town urban feel. Like I said in another post, it's to Houston as Long Island is to New York. Great place. Don't let anyone tell you different.

The air is actually a little cooler in Galveston, but as far as the mosquitoes go, well you're close to the water so of course. Just get some repellant and you'll be okay.

youre probably refering to the north north part of Long Island. a huge part of this island is as ghetto as Queens, NYC
