Default Do cockroaches chirp?

I don't know if I really want to know the answer. I am lying in bed right now and listen to a weird chirping noise outside of my window. We have found dead cockroaches in our apartment. TMI.

Nope on the roaches. I think you are hearing chirping frogs around here that come out in droves after a rain like we've had.

Rio Grande Chirping Frog You can hear a chirping frog on this site.

I was just wondering about all the chirping, too! At first I thought it might be a dying smoke alarm (battery) that we'd somehow left outside.

Glad they're not those tree roaches.

I definitely have seen some teeny frogs around, though.

Thanks for the sound byte. That's exactly what I hear at night.

I was a little confused after talking with my exterminator a couple of weeks ago. He said the night time chirping sound was geckos, but my husband and I were sure it was a frog of some type. We have a lot of geckos on the porch at night, but we've never heard them vocalize at all.

We've had alot of ciccadas this year too. Have never seen so many! Big suckers too! Every morning there is a dead one lying under a light when I open the garage door to get the paper. By mid morning he is gone...I guess a birds breakfast. Creepy!

thanks for that frog link. I was afraid it might be rats squeaking. Frogs, good. Rats, bad.

Something fun your children might like is to take them to the Science Museum and listen to the noises that the different creatures make when they chirp. They have an exhibit where you can pick the creature and then listen to their specific chirp. Both my children thought it was very cool.

sounds like the wonderful world of crickets, remember Jumeny cricket? (I think that is how you spell it?)

they are wonderful and fun to hear unless you are trying to sleep, then they are a total pain.
