I suggest the medical center (South Main/610 area). Lots of people your age and it is technically inside the loop and it's safe enough-not the worst part of town by far. Close to shopping, clubs, places to eat, and lots of females and wait and see the attention u get when they find out u from Detroit(woman luv out of town dudes). And most importantly u can get a 1 bedroom apartment for about $500-$600 in those parts which is great for the budget.

Live off the Richmond strip between 610 and Fondren not a bad area and the price is nice.
Missouri City is the best place to stay in houston ( my opnion) Mixed city with beautiful women
who got there own. Decent apts nearby in Sugar Land and access to malls freeways clubs nightlife.

Women love guys from out of town? Everybody in Houston is from out of town. Get a garage apt in Montrose. That's about 10 min to city center.

Mike, here is my advice. Get your education first. Then get a job. THEN you can find a nice apartment and worry about where you should be going out. Dont think you can come to houston with 6K and everything will be all right. NO WOMEN wants an unemployed man! Also, if you want to be 10-20 min from the "center" whatever that is, expect to pay AT LEAST $800-1200. Galleria is probably be your best choice, you can find something more around $700-800. Missouri City- um i dont know, probably ghetto.
General nightlife is pretty much in several different areas. Downtown, Midtown, Rice Village, and various places in the surrounding suburbs. But YOU NEED AN EDUCATION AND A JOB.
Good luck!

Well it's about being about to afford living downtown - unless you plan to live on the streets or a shelter.
