New law takes affect Sept 1st.

Quote:
The new law will ban motorists from using hand-held cell phones when driving through school zones; this includes talking and text messaging. Drivers will, however, be allowed to use hands-free devices or chat while the car is not moving.

I wish they would stop making laws that specifically target cell phones when the law should really be, "No distracted driving." Tonight my husband nearly ran into a driver who came to almost a dead stop in the middle of the off ramp of a freeway. She was reading something. Probably a map but come on, drive somewhere safe and then PULL OVER! You can't simultaneously read and drive at normal speed.

I guess it is a start! I also saw, starting Sept 1, teens under the age of 18 will not be able to use their phones while driving...period! Now, if it is only enforced!

Doesn't this mean the legislature are admitting that cellphone use negatively impacts driving performance?

Surely this means that they could be sued for negligence by the victim of some moron cellphone using driver in not prohibiting it for all road users?

As an aside to this I saw a pile up yesterday- idiot woman in a Porsche Cayman decides to do an emergency stop in the road so she could grab a parking spot. As usual the idiot drivers here are all too close to each other and they pile one after the other into the back of her and each other. All pretty minor stuff, then blasting through the intersection to 'beat' the red light comes the driver of a big old tank of a car, is too busy talking on her fecking phone to actually observe what's going on until too late and piles into the last car in the accident at about 20mph with her wheels locked up. Result? A minor fender bender turned into 3 written off cars and quite probably some injuries

Using a cellphone while driving is for idiots- if you do it you're an idiot and I hope it's just you who gets what's coming to you.
