What is up with Fort Bend ISD's requirement that parents fill out endless forms with the exact same information on every single one? I just completed half a dozen required forms and they all asked for identical info plus a couple of extra pieces of info for each one. This seems stupid in the extreme. What do they do with all this paper? Have they never heard of computerization? Even if they are still in the Dark Ages and are unwilling or unable to automate anything, couldn't they have ONE form with everything on it, then ask parents to send 10 copies or something?

It is very annoying!

I'm hoping they aren't this backward with everything else they are supposed to do, like teach my children. And this is an "Exemplary" school.

I hear ya! It's not just FBISD, becuase I've just done the exact same stupid thing with SBISD. It gets worse every year. Now they're asking for private medical ins information. Oh, and they want to know if they they have parent permission for your childs address/ phone number to be released to the military recruitment office! Elementary school students getting drafted? Then the PTA hits you up for your life savings on the first day too! Welcome back to school! LOL!

Hey, I was just cussing the FBISD forms today. Either the people who created these forms are semi-literate, or they are deliberately designed to confuse parents. I worked in government bureaucracies my whole life, so I understand boilerplate and legalese just comes with some paperwork. But when presenting a message to the public there has to at least be an attempt at explaining what the purpose of a form is and clearly differentiating between choices. The student directory information release form read as if it was written in three parts by three different committees and then the parts were pasted together by someone who couldn't read.

I totally agree it is STUPID, to fill out the same info over and over and over and over! You would think they would computerize it or at least combine the repetitive info on one page but, wait that is too logical! Guess FBISD needed to show us all that our tax money is going to good use with endless reams of paper coming home with each child. I think I could wallpaper my house with all the papers that came home yesterday!

At my daughter's school last year, everyone was required to fill out the reduced lunch form. Obviously, we don't qualify. But because there are some kids from her school that do, it supposedly makes it easier for them to have everyone fill it out. The real reason of course is their wanting more state funding. I refused to fill it out and they really gave me a hard time. They finally gave up when they sent me their fourth copy and I emailed, "My shredder is getting full so please quit sending me these forms. Thank you."

Let's be honest, FBISD parents. The district has quite a few issues.

I'm in Tomball ISD. Most of our papers come home filled in with last year's info and we only have to make changes but there was one form that I had to fill out from empty. The Junior High mailed all of the papers to us in a packet over the summer and we turned them in when we picked up our class scehdule. The high school sent them home with the kids on the first day. Getting the forms in the mail was so much easier.

My son goes to FBISD, and when I asked his teacher why we have to fill out the same forms over and over again...her replied, "just in case one gets lost"....errrr....

Topaz, that sounds pretty ridiculous. My oldest doesn't start until next year, so I have no experience with it yet. But if this is the case I'm going to be really annoyed... especially considering my two youngest are twins so I'll twice as much paper as everyone else!

Is there anything we can do about it?

Even the very best school districts are still government-run operations, after all.
