Default Hyde Park and HHN Homes

If you have lived in or spent much time in the Hyde Park area, please share with me your thoughts, opinions, experiences with the area. We are moving back to Houston and have almost decided on this area.

Also, does anyone have any experience with HHN homes?

Thanks!

I don't have any experience with HHN homes, other than touring their models, but Hyde Park is a terrific part of the inner loop. Close to pretty much everything.

Keep in mind that it is part of the city, and as such, you need to be smart about things like leaving your garage door open, ipod sitting in the driver's seat, etc. The are has its share of petty crime.

Hyde Park is great but some folks I know that live there are wary since obtrusive townhome builders are buying up homes, throwing them in the dumpster, then putting up their quotidian masterpieces (and not just Hyde Park, but a lot of the little areas in Montrose).

HHN homes - well, the only ones I have seen look like crap (but that's just my architectural preferences, plus the stucco ones I have seen are moldy a lot - bad stucco or bad maintenance, I'm not sure).

I think the overall sentiment is Hyde Park + townhomes = so I'd recommend not seeking those together.

I have walked through a number of HHN townhomes and thought they were nice looking and have a decent reputation. Had a little more in terms of features than say a Perry home, but there were added costs. I almost bought in HP, but found something elsewhere that I liked more. I would have no prolem living there as they are centrally located.

Thanks for the input! It seems that Hyde Park gets a thumbs up from most people. I just wish I could find out more about HHN's quality. I haven't been able to find any "reviews" on them anywhere. Thanks again!

Make sure you check their history real close. I can't recall who the builder was, but there was a big lawsuit about 5 years ago about some of the first of those townhomes built on Hyde Park. I remember the news article vaguely and that basically one of the ones with all the stucco was literally falling apart w/ mold, massive water damage, etc. within 2 years of construction. Like I said, I don't recall the builder involved. Check websites like: HOBB, HADD, and Rip-off Reports. Those are always good to check when looking at houses.
