I think it's time to move Katy to Liberty County or Eastern Montgomery County.

I don't agree with his views and policies and there is more to his speech than welcoming kids back to school. Why all the training materials, talking points, critical thinking, support letters. You're right. There is...see previous posts with links providing D of E's explanation of what Obama will be talking about - he's not merely welcoming them back to school but looks like he'll be encouraging them to be good and responsible students.
Folks - don't know why we're even having this discussion here. It's turned to obvious partisan cat-fighting.
I think those of us who wouldn't mind our children hearing from the president on a non-political issue (child's responsibility to be good students) will never understand the "other" parents who want Obama to have absolutely nothing to do with their children. That is THEIR right as parents and as US citizens. Degrading them for what they believe gets us nowhere.
For those who parent like RoughRider's mom - you can take the time to discuss the non-political message that Obama delivers in his web-cast when your kids get home.
The End.

what FACTS? name them?
you have no bases for your fear. You listen to entertainers on TV and Radio who pretend to be news organizations that preach fear and hate and think it must be real. Then say the media is out to get Republicans!
What on earth could the President say in 10 min to justify taking your kid out of school? What EXCATLY do you think he will say that will in some way harm your child?
Why is believing in the Democratic process wrong or something to be feared? This is our Democratically elected leader. Deal with it!

No. They don't get to win. There are lots of normal people in Katy. The wackos are vociferous, but that doesn't mean that the rest of us should give up. They are not going to take our country away from us. Their policies were rejected.

Does Katy want to be perceived by the rest of the metropolitan area as East Montgomery or Liberty County?
It's time for Katy to wake up, for the wackos to start acting like normal grown-ups and focus on reality. The Conservative Movement lost this election. Their policies were rejected.
It's also time for the rest of us in Katy to have our voices heard. We cannot continue to let others think that Katy is full of illiterate, unread, uniformed reactionaries.

Dang!
One of three things will happen tomorrow...
A. There will be a lock on this thread.
B. It will be relocated to the politics thread.
C. It will remain, but heavily moderated.
If B, I expect it to really be interesting, if there is not already a related thread there. If so, I will surely post what I learn from KISD for those who are interested in the original purpose of this thread.
There is lots of name calling, and assumptions made in these posts. How can one possibly deduce that people are "illiterate, unread, uniformed " without knowing anything about them personally?
If you can do that, well, you definetly win as you are a better person than I to be able to judge people merely by words. And worse yet, to be so hostile just because someone has a different opinion than that of mine.

Yes. Frustrating, isn't it? Nazism = Fascism = extreme right.
I learned in school that the Nazis were far from being anything that today's American liberal espouses. In fact, they were anti-liberal in both political & economic thinking. Hitler is rolling around in hell at being compared to Obama.
Read up EVERYONE!
What is Fascism?

I think you've been pretty respectful in this "discussion" so kudos to you for that!
Respectfully, I do think however, that the turn that this thread took was to be expected considering the topic and mention of Obama and why you did not want your child to be exposed to the webcast.
Katy ISD indeed has a conundrum on its hands from both sides.
