It's time for Katy to wake up, for the wackos to start acting like normal grown-ups and focus on reality. The Conservative Movement lost this election. Their policies were rejected.

It's also time for the rest of us in Katy to have our voices heard. We cannot continue to let others think that Katy is full of illiterate, unread, uniformed reactionaries.
I think it's a lost cause lol, it's almost like they're breading them out here

I certainly understand the original poster's concern for what will take place on the 8th. I believe that like religion...politics should remain out of the schools! The only reason they should be discussed in school is to explain the process & history. I have a certain way of thinking that might not be the same way of thinking as the next person. Therefore I choose to discuss in depth my way of thinking with my children at home...just as I do with religion! Unlike some who have posted here my children can identify who the presidents were & are not because they will see them on a telecast...but because we have an open policy for discussing our beliefs (religion & politics) at home! I wouldn't want my childrens school to discuss anything but the process with them because whether right or left I might not agree with their beliefs. I would encourage all of you to feel the same way....no matter which side of the political agenda you lean towards. Many on this post seem to feel strongly one way or the other & are willing to shove their opinions down others throat if they don't feel the same way.....That is why I feel soooooo strongly AGAINST any political discussions taking place in a public school forum! I would suggest that this is something each of you should be discussing with your children at HOME!
As for the Katy bashing.....what is wrong with some of you. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with the area you live in!!! I can't believe what I have been reading. This is exactly why I wouldn't want politics discussed in school! If people don't think the same way that you do they are either racists, rightwing, or idiots! Get a grip people! Katy is a multicultural, multipolitical town! Quit trying to label & discriminate!
To the original poster I will check with my childrens school tomorrow as well & post back what I have learned. I thank you for bringing this to my attention. I had no idea that this was even in the plans!

I don't mind speeches that motivate, encourage, etc., but when the administration asks what they have done for Obama, or what they can do for Obama, I think they will cross the line, and so I am calling my child's school to find out what activities will occur that day. If they will be forced to watch, then I will ask to pull my daughter out for those few hours, or if they don't allow that, then I will keep my child home from school for the duration, or for the day.

Has anyone else called any school, in particular, Katy ISD? If so, what have you been told? I called my child's school, but they have started lunch, so it rolled over to voice mail... or they are getting flooded with calls.
This is the original OP-
He opened the door by stating that he doesn't mind speeches that motivate or encourage, but that he thinks "they" - whom I suppose he means Obama, will step out of line. He also states that if his child is forced to watch, he will pull her out of school.

Now, what many objected to was 1. We don't know what is in the speech, because it hasn't been released. So how do we know "they" will cross the line and 2. he is willing to take his child out of school even before he knows what the speech is about. And it is his right to take his child out of school for that, I suppose. But if you are going to cherry pick what you kid is learning, you'll be pulling them out of school a lot.

On the internet, we only have posters "words" to go by. Many posters cannot articulate precisely what they disagree with this administration about. Or they are not willing to put in writing what they have against President Obama.

The post just seemed to me to have a basic lack of respect for the President of the United States. So what if you disagree with some of his policies- he's still the President. Teach your kids to respect the office and the process.

As for Katy being multi-cultural, you are correct. Which is why I posted that those of us in Katy need to let the rest of Houston and the area know that. But it doesn't help when posters from Katy put forth inflammatory ideas, thoughts and refuse to back them up with facts. You have to admit, if you are reading this thread, you might get the idea that people in Katy are gonna pull their kids out of school because the President is going to give a speech. Not the impression I want people to have of my community.

The less conservative in the country just spent 8 years being called communists, socialists, idiots, etc.

Doesn't feel so good now, does it?

The difference was that for the last 8 years, the left has been willing to back up their objections with facts from reputable sources. The far right hasn't been able to do that, or they refuse to do that.
