Default Minneapolis, MN to Houston??

"Another" one. I grew up in Chicago (IN Chi. Not the burbs. THE city). At 15 my family relocated to Minneapolis, which for my parents was probably a good choice. I feel like I missed my chance to "escape" when I didn't leave for college...10 years later, here I am, and HATING it.

I am 27 and a single mom of 2. Right now, I live in a very white suburban area (92% white, 3% black) as I thought it was the best choice when my kids entered school. I hate that they are often the only black kids in class. I hate that we are 1 of 2 black families in our townhome community. And overall I dislike that the black population in Mpls is about 16%.

I am ready to move on! I am thinking of moving back to Chicago, but wanted to look into Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, & Baltimore as well. A few years ago I looked into moving to Charlotte but it was not for me.

I am looking for a stable work econonmy (I have an Accounting degree), cost of living below the nat'l average, affordable but decent neighborhoods & schools, a mixed community, & good place for singles to meet new people.

Insight into neighborhoods, etc would be great. thanks all!

You'll definitely find more diversity in Houston. I guess there's certain white flight areas, but generally we're a big melting pot here.

Hi,

I'm from St. Paul. Houston is a very diverse city with alot to do. Get Black Enterprises April issue, "top 10 cities for African Americans" Houston ranks # 4.

You can "hit me" with any other questions.

I agree. Houston is great for all minorites and majorities too, since its almost an even split between whites, hispanics, and blacks, and we cant forget asian and middle eastern. Houston is very diverse. Cultures do seem to interact more with each other than with others, but I think thats in most big cities.
