Cool New to Texas - from Detroit to Houston

Hi - I'm looking for advice on where to move in the Houston area. I've been reading posts about various suburbs, but I'm not entirely sold on a suburban lifestyle... I'd like to try city-living in Houston. My problem is I've only been to Houston once for the job-interview and I don't know anyone... Any advice is much appreciated

The profile I'm looking for: something upbeat for a female, mid-20s... and I'd like to be conservative with an income around 60,000...

Suggestions would be great for various districts/areas/zip codes, even buildings. From what I've read, it looks like Midtown might be a start? I would especially appreciate recommendations of places to stay away from... I'd rather be safe, than in the heart of the 'wrong' kind of action...

Thank you ahead of time for your help!

Midtown or the Washington Ave corridor are good options for you. Pretty much most of the central and western side of the inner (610) loop, plus the Galleria area. Assuming income of $60k, and renting, not buying, you should be able to find something in most all areas (size and amenities will vary of course).

As far as places to stay away from, it all depends. There are sketchy parts of the city for sure, but the thing about Houston is that there is good and bad in most all parts of town, so take what you hear and read with a grain of salt. Your best bet is to start with where your job is located, and go from there.
