I'm a fifth year medical student from Mexico City. I'm going to Houston for 2 months to a surgery course in the Methodist Hospital. I really don't know the city neither places to live near the Hospital. Perhaps someone could inform me about a small apartment or some place where I could rent a room. I really would appreciate it.

To rent a room, I would suggest Craigslist.

When I first moved to Houston I lived for a month or two in a Skylane Apartments near West U. that's now been torn down. They have either month to month or week to week rentals - no fixed lease, and also have utilities (aircon is a must for Houston is much warmer and muggier than 8000'+SL C.d.Mexico). There is still one in Montrose that's not far from Methodist Hospital. Be careful, cause it's a pretty transient, maybe a bit on the rough side population in week to week places. If you have a lot more money than I did when I was a student try some place like an Embassy Suites (also week to week or month to month).

!Buenas Suerte, amigo!

There are a lot of apartments near the Medical Center. Try some apartment at the Smithlands which is very near to the Med. You can find some people on craiglist who are willing to share their apartment for a month or two.

I found your post and I am in a similar situation. I am looking to move to Houston and work in cardiac at either Methodist or DeBakey center. I also have a son that will be starting Kindegarten next school year. What are good areas to live in? Schools? Aftercare? Any info you can give would be much appreciated. Thanks!
