Ditto here.

And I certainly won't be going in for the H1N1 vaccine.
Me three. And I thought I was the only one! I've gotten the flu shot twice as an adult and became horribly sick within 24 hours both times. Now I'm too skittish to try again.

I haven't had the flu since I started taking flu shots. I was always skittish before, and came down with the darn flu most years. Now, I take the shots and don't get the flu.

I also use a sinus rinse, and try to arrange (not easy) to get extra rest during flu season, to build immune system. If you let yourself get run-down, you're a prime candidate.

Did MD Anderson say WHY they don't recommend the H1N1 shot?

Yea, I am kind of curious as to why they would say that. I highly doubt they would though.

i have never gotten a flushot, and dont plan on it. i do remember the lineup at basic training where we got like 7 shots including one in the backside. you think your arm is sore, i remember walking in with about 30 other men. every dropped trow, then everyone was pullin up and walkin out, i started too also thinking i was done. i got yelled at. turns out they stuck this 7" needle in my backside and the plunger broke (buns of steel anyone) so rather then starting over, they just unscrewed the needle off and left it in my bum. they she came back over, screwed the new shot on and finished me up. talk about sore!

just an fyi ..... a flu shot is a DEAD virus..... it can't make you sick..... it just provides an enemy for your own immune system to ramp up against......

i have had the real influenza flu one time .... probably 25 years or so ago,..... was so sick, my hair hurt...... i NEVER want to go through that again.....

started getting flu shots about 12 years ago when i moved my mom up here and into a nursing home..... the only time i have ever had a reaction is with the 1st one i got..... arm a little sore and a few general body aches for a day or so......

and an added benefit as far as i am concerned is if i happen to come down with a cold, it is less severe than i used to get...... the flu shot primes the body to fight the flu virus, and this can carry over to the rhino virus........

It can definitely make you sick because you can be sensitive to something in the flu shot. Have you ever read the ingredients in it?

Curious what people think about this article:

You can doubt all you want. Just passing on the info we were given. My husband is a patient there and we are there every 6 months. We both got our flu shots there...and when we asked our Dr. about the H1N1, She told us, MD Anderson was NOT recommending it...as they thought it was highly blown out of porportion. Believe what you wish. We were told they were not even offering it.

I am a nurse and I was just about to say the same thing. Those who did get sick after having a flu shot, already had the flu bug in their system. It takes 2 weeks for the flu vaccine to work, so they got the flu....but not because of the shot. All is not lost though. As you get a flu shot every year, your body builds up immunities to all the bugs that replicate over and over into new strains.

Now the H1N1, as a health care professional, I would not get it. Too many side effects and risks.

Didn't the last H1N1 vaccine go horribly wrong this summer?
