Red face Clearlake vs. Pearland

Help..my husband is being transfered to Houston and I am torn between Clear Lake City and Pearland. Both my husband and I are city people (originally from the metro area of NYC) and have a nine year old daughter who is a bit more country (growing up in Mass.). I want it all...great schools and community for my daughter, close to the city for me and my man.

In saying that...I turn to the great people of Texas for advice.

Thanks

Both areas are nice. Clear Lake will be closer to the water and a little more expensive to live in. Closer access to 45 which will get you to Galveston pretty quickly. I believe Clear Creek is the ISD that way and it is supposed to be a very good school district.

I live in Pearland myself and love it. It would be a little cheaper to buy a home in Pearland right now and you have quicker access to The Beltway and 288. If you would choose to be close to water on this side you have access to Freeport, Surfside and can also access Galveston via a ferry. I have 3 children in this district right now and have been very happy with the schools in Pearland ISD. There is probably more nightlife in Clearlake and neither has a long drive to Houston.

Deerpark is not far from either. If you have any direct questions about Pearland I will be happy to answer them.. I have lived here for almost 11 years.

You might like Deer Park to live in as well. It has nice neighborhoods and schools and probably has a better commute to downtown than Clear Lake or Pearland. Clear Lake is a nice area to live, but it's far down the gulf freeway and then you have to drive for a while to get to where the good neighborhoods are. It's an easy commute from there to Deer Park, but not so much to downtown. Pearland will also feel closer in and more connected, but the flip side is that Clear Lake is actually an annexed part of Houston. If you want to be closer to the city action then go with Pearland.

I would go with Clear Lake over Pearland. I grew up in Pearland and it's nice but I prefer the overall community of Clear Lake - both are good communities but Clear Lake is great and about a 25 minute ride into downtown during non-peak hours. It feels closer to the city to me unless you live at 288/518 in Pearland but I just don't care for that area as much. Guess you'll just have to check them both out.

There's nothing wrong with anything from 225/east of BW8 heading on south/southeast.

I like Pearland as well, but, the commute becomes a crawl in various spots since Pearland has exploded and the quadrant I mentioned has plenty of access to happening places.

You may get ideas about being near plants, some of which may have merit, but I lived close(ish) to a bunch of plants while living next to San Joke Central and the nearest plant fire I ever got a pic of from my window was somewhere in the I-10/Wallisville road area. Could be luck, but it was what it was...

I work in Galveston, as I am Coast Guard, and live in Clear Lake, I actually looked at Pearland, it is very nice in Pearland, I just enjoy Clear Lake a little more, has everything we need, and right in the middle of both Galveston, and Houston.

We are in Pearland and love it. My son was in Barbara Cockrell Elementary and is now in Sablatura Middle School (5th) and has settled really well - Pearland ISD is a recognized district. Depending on which side of Pearland you choose I think your husbands commute might me slightly less from Pearland (the West side is getting busier all the time). Our home is less than 5 mins from the Beltway and my husband just scoots right round to the port in the morning. If we want to go downtown it's about 30 mins. The Pearland Town Center is great for shopping and we are only about 20 mins from Baybrook Mall.

We moved to the Houston area from the east coast 3 years ago. We lived in Leage City/Clear Lake for the first 6 months while we got used to the area to decide where we wanted to buy. We ended up in Pearland. Traffic in League City/Clear Lake is so miserable on the weekends. It has gotten worse in the past 3 years. I am so glad we didn't buy there. I work in La Porte and commute from Pearland. La Porte is about 10 minutes past Deerpark. Good luck!
