I need a crap load of stuff for the house, tools, ladders, buckets, etc that I have no intention to spend premium dollar in Home Depot buying new.

I would like to shop at yard sale garage sale. How do you guys get yard sale information and know where to go?

Find the website of the city you live in, and see if they have a listserv you can sign up for. The listserv will send you announcement emails from the city.

For example, I am on the listserv for the city of Pearland, and every Friday I get an email for it, telling me about all the garage sales that are going to be in Pearland that weekend. Pretty neat.

Personally I think the best way is estate sales. They sell all kinds of stuff like yard tools, regular tools, lots of just basic stuff.

If you get on the e-mail list of some of them, then you will know when they are coming up. They tend to advertise in the greensheet I think also.

You can google estate sales Houston or something like that and probably find a slew of them.

Do they let you buy individual stuff or they sell like $50 a box of crap, take it or leave?

Depends on the sale I guess, but all the ones I have been to things have been priced individually and then on the second or third day they mark it half off.

The problem with yard sales is typically they only sell their crappy stuff they don't want or use. In an estate sale it is usually EVERYTHING, especially if the relatives live out of town or have everything they need at their house(s) already. They aren't going to haul buckets, a chain saw, a table saw, rakes, shovels, drills, etc., off to another city or state. Not usually anyway. Often times when people buy houses that were estates that stuff is just left in the garage.
