Food storage
Any helpful hints out there for us newbies on food storage, etc? Just wondering with the humidity and/or roach problems if there are secrets for keeping our pantry foods fresh.

tilia food saver. Keeps the fresh in, can be frozen, boiled, re-sealed. I am on my 2nd food saver after wearing out my old one which was a factory reconditioned - it lasted about 5 years. It is more than worth the money. I save everything in the bags - I can buy meat in bulk and re-package for freezing; no freezer burn. I seal all my flour which I also buy in bulk when it's on sale, like now (holiday baking time). re-seal chip bags, cookies after baking, the uses are endless.
I would be lost without my Food Saver!

Keep all cereals, grains, pasta, cookies, crackers, chips, dry baking ingredients, dried fruit, candy, pet food, etc., in good quality airtight containers. Take them out of their original paper/cardboard packaging and put them in those containers as soon as you bring them home from the grocery store. I use old fashioned glass jars with wire bail lids and rubber rings (very decorative), Tupperware, Lock and Lock and others, depending on the item. No problem with humidity, ants, weevils or other bugs.
Store shelled nuts in the freezer.
