I applied for DL 60 days back and never recd it when called DMV they said they did mail it 50 days back so it's gone, I will apply for new one again BUT concern is stolen identity?

- Shd I file a Police-complaint because if I don't file one who/how such issues are being tracked/investigated

- What to watch for now since DL is stolen and in case some-one tries to misuse it

Why don't DMV send DL thru registered-mail they can charge a few bucks more but it will be safe and peace of mind

Has anyone experiences same situation?

thank you

Don't know what the DMV told you, but there was a newspaper article about how slow they were being a few months ago.

I don't trust the mail service anymore. I sent a rebate check to a client for $750 as a cashiers check. BIG MISTAKE!! They lost it. It was my fault for not sending it certified, but i've sent bigger amounts before and also received checks this way.

Anyways, the bank would not issue a refund until 90 days after the initial date. So I had to reissue another check, and wait 3 months to get my money. The cashiers check was never cashed, it was just LOST!

This really has nothing to do with the original post, but I needed to get that out!

No one seems to care if a driver's license is stolen. Mine was stolen (along with my entire purse) and the DMV said that a stolen DL is not a reason to get a new number. The theft was included in the police report, but there isn't much the police can do.

So the DMV will likely just tell you to order a replacement.

as you said looks like DL theft is not taken seriously AND they will not issue new DL number So the thief can easily use the DL number

ALSO they could easily prevent mail theft by sending registesred post for sensitive documents BUT no one seems to care

Of course, they do not issue a new DL number. Just like they will not issue a new SSN number. They are linked to your driving/criminal/private/credit records. If everybody would get a new one each time he/she lost it/got stolen , then it would open the door to a lot of fraud. These are sensitive numbers.
