So Next Monday the 19th is my last day as a resident of NY state. Transferred down to Houston, for work. Any last minute, advice, tips etc.? I am aware of the much warmer climate but besides that i do not know what to expect.

Welcome! Just come with an open mind. Some things will take a little getting used to, after NY. But give it all a chance. There are lots of transplants here. I moved here from Binghamton, and I love it.

Get ready for more friendly people...it was awkward for me the first couple months, but I love it now.

Get ready for the temperature to go from 90 to 65 on any given day.

Make sure you have GPS and a car (public transportation isn't something anyone can depend on at anytime). I had a friend that moved from NYC without a car and 3 months later she bought one. It just doesn't work here not having a car. She didn't understand until she got here.

No one walks here.

You can use "The beltway" (It's a tollway) but sometimes it's just not worth it.....other freeway's are fine and they are free. If you use it make sure you get an "EZ Tag" it's faster than using coins.

Your electric bill will skyrocket in the summer because it's so hot. Humidity is terrrible it's going to feel warmer than it really is.

Like another person said Great Winters! When a piece of snow lands somewhere in the area it's a blessing from God.

Texas= Drought or Flood. And we apparently are headed for a wetter and colder winter than normal. But still, colder here will feel like nothing to you.

I moved from Boston a year ago, just don't expect northeast lifestyle, keep an open mind, take Houston for what it is. Last year was the first time I have ever golfed on Christmas eve and new years day.

Make sure you have a sweater in your office, especially during summer. Our office buildings are generally over-airconditioned!

Thanks for the tips. The driving is so seriousily different here, confused the hell out of me but I figured it out. Weather is great compared to NY too. People are friendly for sure.
