Cool Houston ranked well in America's Favorite Cities 2009

America's Favorite Cities 2009 | Cities | Houston - Travel + Leisure (http://www.travelandleisure.com/afc/2009/city/houston/resident/ - broken link)

For what it's worth, our city came out pretty well in this years rankings. The usual issues with "pedestrian friendliness" and summer weather are manifested in low rankings in those categories but otherwise, given the competition, I think we did well...top 5 in many categories.

We have a great City, with so much potential to be even better. Not much we can do about the heat. any more than Chicago, can do anything about the cold.---Are there any Jobs in Paradise??

I'd have to say Houston ranked way too low for weather. There are a lot of cities above them I'd consider worse. Especially San Francisco. I hate their weather.

Ranked eighth by visitors for "attractiveness?" Must be a different group than who come around on this forum.

Yeah, I'd tend to agree Houston is ranked too low but it's really all about your perspective and preferences I guess. I have to admit I'm jealous of Denver when I leave low 60s in mid-July for mid 90s with humidity in Houston. Pretty sure most people would agree with that one. But why is Dallas ranked so much worse than Houston? Tornado risk perhaps?

Anyway, weather is one of those topics everyone can disagree on so you just end up with a circular debate...I'll stop mine here.

Fairly meaningless rankings of clueless tourists

Votes of major companies in which cities/suburbs they choose for their HQs are far more relevant than opinions of tourists with more free time than money; Hou is a big favorite of energy industry and affluent business travelers

Weather and walking nonsense mean little in modern regions like Hou or Dall or SiliconValley where everyone drives climate-controlled cars heading to nearby suburban offices with spacious garages and has modern roads/fwys to get there....and homes/offices/restaurants/shops, etc have modern HVAC, unlike archaic towns like NYC or London or Munich or other EU towns where 7mos/yr of heat/humidity and 5 mos/yr of cold/slush/salt are hassles of daily life
