What do you like about living or visiting Houston?
I think it would be fun to list some positive things about Houston. I think sometimes Houston gets a bad "rap" so..................
I would like to know what you like about living in Houston? Or if you don't live there what do you like about visiting this great city?
Since I don't live in Houston, but I do visit family there, I would have to say I like the friendly people. True southern hospitality is evident.

I love the weather. I love the people. I love the skyline. I love riding the light rail from UH Downtown to the Museum District. I love the variety of Asian cuisine. Houston is one of the best cities for dining out. I love being close to the Gulf. I love the Lars Bang houses in Meyerland. I love the old fashioned Bayou/Gulf style houses in The Heights. I love the fact that even in the roughest parts I never feel unsafe.
And last, but not least, I love how ignorant the rest of the country looks every time they list us as "Top 10 bad this or that".

I agree about the people, when they aren't in their cars they're some of the friendliest you will meet. The food is excellent if you're prepared to pay for it, likewise the nightlife and general opportunities to satisfy your every whim.

Houston is a large city with great mini-clusters of activity within the city. I enjoy that about the city. Each has it's own culture and crowd. Museum district, Heights, Memorial, River Oaks, Woodlands, Clearlake, Galveston.
It's a mesh of cities in 1 huge city.

Friendly people, lush tropical vegetation (palm trees, bougainvilla, hibiscus), dramatic skyline, energy, diversity, dining options, close to the Gulf, mild winters, affordable; no zoning means all services within a 5 minute drive from my house (no zoning: you love it or hate it).

What bad rap are you talking about? What major US size the size of Houston doesn't have issues?
Houston is a great city. I have lived in NY, LA, Chicago and Miami.
Houston offers a lot for it's citizens. First of all, housing is so affordable. Cost of living is very affordable, the most of all 4 cities. Tons of arts and entertainment. Great public parks system. Good schools. Diverse communites...
Now does Houston have crime? Yes, who doesn't. Is it PERFECT? No but what is?
I love NY, if could afford to live there again, I would.
However, Houston offers all I need and love, that only major cities can offer.

I'm in my early 20's and I just moved to Houston in August. I have been able to find some places in Houston that I really like.
I finally made it out to the Menil Museum this weekend. What a beautiful museum! I'm hoping I will be able to make it out to the Rothko Chapel and the Houston Museum of Modern Art very soon. I also love the neighborhood in that area. It's really beautiful.
I wondered around downtown with my brother this weekend. We found some pretty cool places. It appears downtown is evolving into a night life and tourist hub in Houston. We found a really cool outside mall in downtown. I'm not sure what it's called, but it seemed very new.
I love the Westheimer area. There is a coffee shop called Agora on Westheimer that I really like. The coffee is pretty mediocre, but the atmosphere is fantastic and gives off a really cool vibe.

It's just home and it's comfortable - like your favorite jeans or best well-worn shoes. People are for the most part nice and I can always find something to do.
