Talking Egyptian Hair Salons in Houston?

I am African-American recently moved from Chicago to Houston and am looking for an Egyptian hair salon. Similar to the popularity of the Dominican Hair Salon in NYC & ATL. Egyptian hair salons in Chicago are big business too! Namely Mena's Hair Design, Ossama's, and Yehia & Co to name a few. These salons are so popular because they do not require an appointment and you walk-in and your out in 1-2 hours (that's even with a relaxer). I believe that this can be attributed to the fact that they only do natural hair. Mostly medium to long lengths and NO WEAVES! Traditional African-American salons double book their appointments which leaves you sitting with wet hair all day and when they finally get to you. You've been there over 4 hours, so not COOL! Can anyone please advise?

Default Dominican Hair Salons

Hi There, I am originall from Chicago and am very familiar with the Egyptian owned hair salons you mentioned. I now live in Grand Rapids, MI and visit with a wonderful Dominican hairstylist, Clara. We are moving to Houston soon, when I saw your post I thought, Dang I've asked questions and read up on all sorts of things on this board, except one crucial question......how about Dominican hair salons? Are there any in Houston or surrounding areas? If not, I just might have to rethink this move....., just kiddin

Default Hair Salon

Hi, I saw your post and was interested in learing more about the Egyptian Hair Salons in Houston, I have been taking my daughter to Visible Changes where she has her hair relaxed probably twice year, could be more but she is only 14 so we try not to do it so often. I'm not too versed on the best salons and procedures for her hair, my hair is very different from hers, so any advice and help would be appreciated.

I'm originally from DC and used to go to Dominicans for my hair. I haven't found anything like that down here so far. Hopefully someone will reply with good leads. :-D

I have been here in houston for about 5 years. My sister has just recently moved here from N.Y. looking as well. We haven't had any much luck. However, I did get an referral today for a Dominican hair stylist. Not sure how she is but just in case you would like to try. It's Betty @713-910-7594 in the Southwest area.

Mike has been my primary hair dresser since 1995! I would highly recommend him. He works Thursday - Saturday. He is truely a hair magician, from flat ironing to extentions!

BTW - Mike is at Trimmers on OST @ 288. You can reach him at 713.748.8999.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but can someone explain what a Dominican stylist does that other stylists can't/don't do? Post a few pictures of these Dominican before and after styles and maybe someone can lead you in the right direction.

There are several threads on salons. Check those out too.

Were you ever able to find an Eqyptina Hair stylist in the Houston, Area? I've just recedntly moved from the Chicagoland area myself and Mena's Hair salon was where I use to get my hair done. I'm in desperate need of my hair being steamed dryed instead of sitting uder the heated dryer for 2 hours at most salons. Any help would be great.

Quick Question- Those that go the the Egyptian or Dominican Salons with natural hair....is it damaging to your hair? When you wash it do your coils revert back? I ask because while it sounds nice I would be terribly scared of heat damage.
