The Woodlands is probably the worst place to live if you have to commute downtown. It's quite far and lots of traffic in between. I'd easily go with Kingwood which is still heavily wooded and pretty attractive location.

WTH? The suburbs have beef now? lol. I think Katy is nicer than Sugar Land, but Sugar Land is nice as well. Sugar Land feels bigger and is more diverse, but South Katy looks nicer...to me.

Basically, whatever suburb you live in, vote for it because it is the best ever.
Interesting comments that Katy feels the most connected to Houston, even though it is roughly 30 miles from downtown, similar to Kingwood and a hair less than the Woodlands. The new I-10 makes accessibilty a lot better, though it is still on the same exurban level IMO.
If we're talking about closest to the center of population in the metro, I think Sugar Land wins that one for this poll. The premium suburb of the Memorial area is closer, though. Interesting it was left out even though some areas are no farther from downtown than Pearland. And speaking of that, you'd think Pearland would be next after Memorial because of distance, but the "hole" south of town has prevented it. This has been and will probably continue to slowly change.
'Clear Lake' is an oddball because it is an archipelago of towns around the lake. You have outer SE Houston proper, SE Pasadena proper, Webster, League City, El Lago, Nassau Bay, Taylor Lake Village, Seabrook, Kemah, etc. The part near Ellington Field is more connected to SE Houston while the areas around the waterfront are more connected to themselves. It's also the only suburban area I am aware of that has a zip code with the same age demographics as Montrose, modal age around 27. ( 77058 vs 77006)

The Wal-Mart, Target, Pearland Town Center, etc...is full of people from south Houston. Those people that shop there, people that work there, people that hang out there, etc...
If you look at Pearland as a whole, you have 3 Wal-Marts, each of them that cater to a different market. The Wal-Mart closest to 288, I won't even go in that Wal-Mart, and I know it's not because of being in West Pearland, more than it is because it is directly south of ghetto South Houston.

The reason why people say Katy is more connected with Houston is because the West side of Houston is the most built up. Easily. You have the Energy Corridor, Westchase, Memorial City/City Centre, and Uptown all west of 610. The West is the most built up side of Houston, too. This is different from Kingwood. What is there on 59? This is different from The Woodlands also. What is there on 45 besides Greenspoint?

Memorial isn't a suburb. It's part of the city. It isn't even outside of the Beltway. And the center of population in the metro area is I-10 at Gessner actually.

Last I checked the Memorial Villages were their own cities, not part of Houston except by the USPS that serves them. Also, apparently my part of Clear Lake is not a suburb because it is in the city of Houston. Both you and I know that won't fly. Even Forbes says those villages are suburbs. I think there is too much generalization in here. Just about all of the Houston area is suburban, even West U inside 610. There are only a select few areas around town that are not suburban, and compared to other urban cities they are pretty weak.
As far as South Houston goes, that is a predominantly blue-collar, Hispanic town of its own along the southeast side, down Old Galveston near Pasadena. The "south side" people are the ones making the Silverlake/Pearland folks uncomfortable. And from what I've seen in that particular Wal-Mart, I can't blame them if they didn't grow up with that around. But every Wal-Mart around here is going to have its trash. If you can't tolerate it, don't shop there.

Scared? No. Just personally don't feel you can be considered the best community in Houston when that is the element around you. Crime, traffic, safety concerns, etc...all have gotten worse in Pearland as of late.
