Default What Do You Like The Best Area To Live If You Are Frugal?

Is the the outskirts of Houston like Conroe? Waller etc?

I like spending, unless its peer pressure thats making me spend - thats what we avoided living in those mastaplan communities out there - we're not ready yet. We moved from NYC to (north) Alief TX near chinatown - which is against a lot of people's advice on purpose. No pressure living here, lots of cheap eats and specialty grocery stores which is great if you like to cook for yourself. I guess its the best place for minimal cultureshock for us lol. everyone has simple yards, cars, lifestyles... I dont think anyone plays golf here. you do have to open up your wallet a bit for HOA fees to have walls and a gate for the community ($450/year). the taxes are slightly lower than most areas. We also spend a bit on the westpark tollway which to us is very much worth it (we work uptown, 15mins drive for me)
I read Stafford doesn't collect property tax BTW, I bet housing there is affordable since theres a bit of industrial district appeal.

Not if you own the land. You'll still get hit pretty hard on property taxes.
