Default are deadlifts and olympic lifts unpopular?

I go to lifetime fitness on Willowchase and 249. I have never seen anyone else doing deadlift, hang pull, hang clean, cleans, or exhaustive high pull. It seems like most of the people just do benchpress and curls. I would say that deadlift is the king of exercises next to squats. But no one seems to do them. Is it because they are far more exhausting than benchpress? After I do deadlifts, shrugs, and hang pulls I have to actually go home and take a 1 hour nap im so tired.

Deadlifts and squats are definitely the best.

You don't see anyone doing those cause 1: they don't know any better, and 2: they think girls only care about chest and biceps, so you have a bunch of roided out freaks with chicken legs walking around all over the place =)

They benchpress until they are blue in the face and their benchpress is not that impressive. I only do it twice a week and I my 1rm is 405 and im only 202 lbs. I see guys at my gym that do it all the time and they are huge and struggle with 315.

i see people at LAfitness all the time doing bench and curls for the simple reason, ITS THE COOL THING TO DO. the majority of the people i see at the gym are there for 2 reasons, its a place to hang out with your buddy, and to work out these 2 muscle groups because they think "the chicks dig it". this is why you always see the knucklehead tool who is HUGE up top and has tiny little chicken legs.

i used to have a close friend who was all into roids and was a trainer at 24 hour. he was also one of those chest and arms guys only types and he got ridiculously huge up top and his legs where so small. we used to make fun of him but his response was always, "i wear loose pants so who is gonna see my legs till it is to late?" typical TOOL.

I moved to Sugar Land from Boston Ma a year ago. I'm a member at lifetime in Sugar Land, it seems to me that Lifetime is different from gyms I've been to in the past. It seems that Lifetime is more of a family orientated gym. I'm sure there are other gyms in the area that you will find people dead lifting and Olympic lifts. Lifetime feels more like a health club than a gym.

I know because at the Champions one they have rows and rows of machines. The area for free weigths is smaller and there is only 1 spot I can do deadlifts at. The other most useless contraption I have seen is this platform for deadlifts where the bar sets on a rack. That thing is absolutely useless. Deadlift was meant to be done on the floor. Another useless thing they have is this shrugging machine. If you do real ones your whole body has to work to hold the weight in the air. That thing is popular with the bodybuilder looking people but they can't even do 405 using a bar. And then you have people that do curls in a squat rack and they like to watch their arm in the mirror.

People like to bench press because you get to lay down while you're doing it. I've found dips to be a better exercise.

I'm not sure. I will tell you that I am a freakin' beast at the gym. I work out so hard that I actually make other people tired!

I try to never lift anything, that don't need moving. I also try to not lift, more than I can eat.

Deadlift and squats are definitely the best overall exercise to do, but they do have a certain degree of difficulty to perform safely. I would bet the degree of difficulty is what scares most people off. I know I didn't do those exercises for awhile before I finally got the nerve to ask for help and learned how to do it properly. Definitely burn a lot of fat and build a lot muscle with those two exercises. You can tell how serious people are about working out by these exercises.
