Yep, Washington is the place these days. Give it 3 years and it will move.

Washington is milking the "Social crowed" big time. Decadence and Valet parking abound. Some more fun layed back Places can be found on white Oak. but not so crowded. "6th street Grill", "Jimmies Ice house", "Fitzgeralds" for good sounds, and of course, "Onion creek", for a friendly laid back crowd, with good food. All within a nice walk from each other, on a nice quiet well lit street.

I don't think Houston has anything compared to 6th street. I def. think you should check out Washington St. I would also recommend Rice Village Area, few bars there (Bakers, Gingerman, etc) and Mid-town Area as well.

6th Street Austin is highly over rated IMO. Most locals don't even go there anymore from what I understand.

I do like to Skate from one bar to the next. 6th Street now frowns on that. And to me, things can be to crowded. I like folks fine, but also like some elbow room. Patios area must for me. I was indoors before I left the house.

Do the bars in the Heights serve booze too, I think I went to Onion Creek last week and all the had was beer? There was a thread earlier saying the Heights was dry.

the Heights is funny. Parts are dry, parts are not. The border for being wet stops just a few feet west of Onion creek. So the east side of Onion creek is wet, and the west side is dry. Which My Neighbors and my self think is the best of both worlds. We can go down the Block, and have drinks, then come back west to a nice quiet Neighborhood, with no loud bars, or obnoxious drunks to deal with. I really like it. For the 25 years I spent in the "Montose", I was between several Bars. And the steady procession of drunks going back and forth, both on foot, and in cars, would get on ones nerves after awhile. I have never lived in a Dry area before, but have learned to appreciate it quite a bit.---And I like me a cold adult beverage from time to time.

The dry area of the Heights is small and doesn't affect much of the Heights at all. The best part is you can bring booze to your favorite restaraunt if they don't serve. Most of the bars in teh Heights server liquor as well.
