That running strings on your face is called threading and that is NOT a racket, that is an awesome way to do eyebrows, much better than waxing. Besides the threading carts aren't the ones accosting me usually, it's the mineral makeup, the flat irons, the nail and hand creams, etc. Threading carts actually offer a service, right there on the spot for super cheap, nothing retail to sell you.

thx for explaining the running strings on your face comment - I didn't get it. Poor economy or not, there is no excuse for a nice, upscale mall to let these cart vendors turn it into a tourist stall type atmosphere.

What are you seeing in regard to Simon malls?

The pushcart is a New York tradition. It's a fixture at a lot of Northeastern malls.

I hate it, too. I'm so sick of it that I try to head them off by saying, "No thank you...I'm in a hurry," while walking quickly past them, and then I can hear the vendors yelling something at me in a harsh tone of voice in languages I can't understand.
This is yet another reason why I mostly shop online or go to Town and Country Village.

I just ignore them. If you don't respond than they usually leave you alone. If you respond with a "No thank you" or anything; they'll try to convince you otherwise. They are really bad at Sharpstown Mall.

Well, as somebody who goes from mall to mall doing grunt work for Limited Stores, I've heard the Simon company is not doing so well. One has to wonder how many Sharpstown type malls Simon owns, which would likely counter the Gallerias that they already have. Although Sharpstown is not a Simon, I do know that Victoria's Secret stayed in Sharpstown only because they were given a free lease for four years. There has to be hundreds of these situations all over the country. Hence, the terribly annoying kiosks. And as for "upscale malls", I'd have to say there are many cities in the U.S. where "upscale" and "mall" would never be uttered in the same sentence.

I've never had anyone accost me in the manner described. The vendors at the Galleria carts are typically polite, and when I say no, they accept that. No harm, no foul on either side. On the few occasion when I've been interested in their stuff, they've been very enthusiastic, and happy, and I've never felt obligated to buy.

I think what bugs me the most is when you do say "No Thank You" trying to be polite, and they continue to hound you, follow you, and won't leave you alone. A no is a no.
And its frustrating that they will literally come at you 30 or 40 feet away from their "cart" to approach you about whatever sea salt soap they have to sell.
I've told my wife if I'm not with her, and she happens to be in a mall, and someone grabs her like that, to call the cops or punch the person, which ever seems to work better.

I let some Hottie, wash my hands with scented sea salt or something. she must have spent 10 minutes giving me her pitch. I listened politely, then asked if I came back tomorrow, would she wash them again. as it would be cheaper than buying the product. fun can go both ways.
