Near Houston and TAMU
I am going to attend grad school at TAMU in college station and have alot of family in NW houston like 10 miles south of TOMBALL near that outer loop hwy.
Basically I was looking to live somewhere between so I could teach HS and be able to have under 1 hour drive to both Houston and College Station when i wanted to go to school or go to see my family in Houston.
Any ideas of the best place to live in a safe neighborhood that would be between those 2 areas?
I have about 130K in the budget for a home purchase and live alone.
Thanks guys,
John

There really isn't alot between Tomball and College Station. Plantersville would be my best guess but it's all sticks.

Navasota...nice small community. There are several smaller new houses for sale, and some nice older houses near downtown. The community if very school oriented...

Well, the closest you could live to Houston and still get to College Station in under an hour would be from the Cypress Fairbanks area. Then you have to decide how much closer do you want to live to CS.
There is another way to get to CS from Houston, through the Woodlands. Some of my friends swear that it's faster but I've never tried. I've heard that it's about an hour to get to CS from there, so that's another option.
If you like small towns Hempstead is 40 mins away, and Navasota is 20 mins.

Brenham. It's a little closer to College Station than it is to Houston, but they're both around an hour.

Brenham would be the best option. You would be close to Blue Bell .

huh?
There is no way to get to CS from TW unless you go allllllll the way up 1488 to 290 then hit Hwy 6. It would still take an hour and a half from TW.

oh yeah
BTW - a commute from Brenham to downtown would cost at least $20 a day in gas ALONE. I live between Tomball and TW and went to Blinn and it cost me $14 a day.

Well the user said that their destination is only 10 miles south of Tomball, so that takes off a good chunk of the drive from Brenham to downtown.
