College Grad possibly moving to Houston
Hey everyone, where would a young male college grad move to in Houston? I am looking for decent nightlife, great restaurants, shopping, and singles. My price range is very flexible; I am looking for something around $200K. Thanks for the input.

The areas of Midtown, Montrose, Rice Village, maybe Rice Military.

Good luck!

Thanks for the direction. Those seem like great places and not too bad of a commute to the westside.

I think the previous poster's advice is good for your personal needs, but for your work needs, you might find the commute on I-10 a nasty surprise. For instance, it took me about 25 minutes to get from SH-6 to Beltway 8 this afternoon (Friday) and I generally don't even drive at peak commute hours. You would have to drive all the way back to downtown on 10, which would not be fun. Even "against the traffic", I-10 is a clusterf*ck at most hours of the weekday.
The construction on I-10 is slated to complete in 2008, so hopefully it will vastly improve.

I use to live in Houston when I grew up until about 13 so I know how nasty it can get; there is no other city like it traffic wise. Where would you recommend then, if I would not want to make that commute and still try to get some of the perks I want for my personal needs? Thanks

Talking iwth young professionals they stay inside the loop . Its the most popular place.. Try some of the apartments near Highland Village or near Monstrose.... or in the Memorial area... I have heard of some places in that range if you look .

Rice Military, Midotwn and Montrose are great, but not an option unless you can spend 250K or more. Slim pickin's under that threshold. (I know because i'm shopping right now...)
The other alternative is the Galleria area. You can find a lot of older townhomes wih low HOA fees for around 200. The area is not bad for your commute and actually closer if you're working in the memorial area. Lots of stuff to do in area around the galleria/post oak. You willl not lack nightlife.... I lived there for a few years when I got out of school and loved it.

Thanks, I will be sure and look around the Galleria area. I remember it being a great area. It isn't to far from downtown either is it? Are the people in the Galleria area, Rice Village, Montrose, friendly?
