Any obesity indicator stats probably came from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). The BRFSS is a survey conducted annually by each state's health departments. The survey of about 3,000 people is intended to represent the state. Responses are self-report. Depends on whether you think people would confess to a stranger over the phone how tall they are, and how much they weigh . The response is used to calculate BMI (body mass index). A BMI of 30 or higher is considered obese, not just overweight. Men's Health mag did not use BRFSS data.

According to the 2006 BRFS, in the Houston-Baytown-Sugar Land area, about 22.8% of the population is at risk for obesity, compared to the 26.1% of people in Texas, and nationally, who are at risk.

Regarding income, BMI is associated with income -- generally, the more money, the lower (skinnier) the BMI

I would like to comment very seriously about this subject. I am very interested in the presented topic of fatties in certain cities. I believe that the best form of exercise is getting laid and i believe that if every morbidly obese person did this, they would soon become very skinny. Would you agree?

Mission: Finding someone...

What does getting laid have anything to do with obesity?

It's hard to believe but I've lost 40 pounds or so since moving back, in spite of being reacquainted with Whataburger, Shipley's and good Mexican food.

Shipley's Donuts stink, and Whataburger ain't that great! But I live in Houston for 22 months and now I'm in Chicago and I don't notice anything different between people sizes in these 2 cities! Women who are pretty also have great self esteem and whatch what they eat and workout; so there are lots of slim pretty women in Houston!

And dress sizes vary with the height of a woman! Size 10 at 5' 0" is a porker, but if she's 6' 0" it's appropriate! Me, I'm 5' 4" tall and a size 4 to 6, so this size is no big deal but don't bother to go below a size 4 as smaller clothes are hard to find, - like skirt suits, ... unless they are pants!

Houston is not any more noticeably fat than any of the cold-weather cities I've lived in during the past 20 years. I'd guess it's about average for the USA as a whole. I'm spoken-for and not on the market, but the multi-cultural angle here sure seems to have had a positive effect on the ratio of attractive females IMHO.

I always think of Chicago as a city with a obesity problem.
