This was a Western Diamond Back... we don't (should not) have those here.

I'm reading articles that say the distribution actually does come this way, up through East Texas and into parts of Arkansas.

Never seen one before but if I remember what I learned in Boy Scouts, this area is in a crossroads of sorts and potentially has all 4 types of poisonous snakes found in the US (copperhead, cottonmouth, coral, rattlesnake). And it's always a good idea to be able to identify by the markings.

The only western / eastern mix I've personally seen here is with jackrabbits & cottontails (land near Ellington Field), but I wouldn't be surprised if a few of those rattlers are near. Especially near the W/SW parts of town.

I don't know - but he has seen more snakes there than I have seen in my life, outside of the zoo. I don't want to live in that vicinity.

Not that big of a deal. Been here 4 years and have had two Texas Browns(tiny non-venomous snakes) and a banded water snake(also non-venomous). I have yet to come across a rattlesnake besides the ones at the reptile house in the zoo.

Most snakes are looking to stay away from humans.

^^Hmm, the terrain and vegetation don't look like that around GB. Looks more South American to me.

I don't want any part of that!!

I've seen some big snakes in the Piney Woods, but that one looks like it could eat a cow.
