Talking Relocating from Grand Rapids MI

Hi, my husband and I are very seriously considering relocating to TX. from MI. Initially it was a toss-up between San Antonio (where his brother lives) and the Houston area. We are leaning heavily towards Houston because from everything we have heard and read, it is much more culturally diverse than SA, and as an African American couple with 2 kids (8 &10), we celebrate the differences in cultures. My question is this......my husbands professional background is mainly in the automotive industry as a general manager, then as plant manager for automotive suppliers. As such, does Houston offer any/many opportunities in a manufacturing environment? Also, I have read several messages on this forum that talks about property taxes....pardon me for being confused but here in GR we pay city taxes, state taxes and property taxes. So aside from the up to 4% in property taxes, do you also pay city or state tax? If not, I'm on the first thing smoking outta here!!!!
