Pasadena earned the name Stinkadina when there was a papermill pumping out that aweful pervading smell. The papermill has been shut down for many years and consequently, the area has improved greatly. Pollution cutting measures from other facilities has helped quite a bit too. Another thing to keep in mind is that the prevailing winds are SE which would put Pasadena upwind most of the time (sorry Galena Park, Jacinto City, Channelview, etc.).

I agree and people need to be careful of doing that - there are people who do this on many city forums though.

Houston is a automobile-dependent sprawling city that is home to large petrochemical complexes and the nation's busiest port. So yes, there is pollution. You may be able to handle it, maybe not. But it's better now than it has been. Better and more expanded mass transit in the future as well as a transition toward "cleaner" industries should help.

Smog in the city vs. "fresh clean air" in the country which is home to cow pastures, hog farms and landfills.....dollar in one hand, four quarters in the other to me. Then again, I grew up on the fragrant streets of southeast Texas City.
